Popular Institute of Art:
Popular Institute of Art, an initiative of the publishing house Popular Prakashan,
aims to develop a serious knowledge bank and infrastructure for India’s contemporary
visual arts. Its mission is to inform the enthusiast and to augment the bandwidth of the
informed.
PIA collaborates with artists, critics, curators, viewers and readers towards
achieving a convergence. At the school level, it models an art pedagogy that is
responsive and participatory, aiming to cultivate new generations that will not
regard culture as alien to normal life, but rather embrace it as a necessary
condition of being.
The institute along with foundation b & g, has a successful publishing programme
that includes entry-level, intermediate and specialist books.
About Popular Prakashan:
Popular Prakashan has been in the field of bookselling and publishing for the last 87
years. Established in 1924, Popular Prakashan Pvt. Ltd. pioneered Indian publishing in
Medicine, Health and the Social Sciences. Our publishing list of over three thousand
titles spans a truly impressive range of books on different subjects and in varied
languages, which we can confidently claim, is unrivaled by any other independent
publisher in India.
In the last 20 years, Popular has made a very successful entry into
publishing biographies, children’s fiction and reference books, cookery books
and teen fiction. For Marathi books, Popular has been at the forefront of
publishing ever since its inception with over a thousand titles.
Popular has recently entered Art publishing through foundation b & g and the
recently launched “The Dialogues Series” on acclaimed artists Baiju Parthan,
Manu Parekh, Veer Munshi, Atul and Anju Dodiya authored by eminent poet,
curator and critic Ranjit Hoskote and critic and curator Nancy Adajania,
is one such initiative!
